"Pleasant Dreams", an Original Mixed Media Collage

"Pleasant Dreams", an Original Mixed Media Collage
Originally uploaded by sugarpinkrose.

This is an Original, One of a Kind Mixed Media Collage Painting. This piece has multiple layers and lots of texture. It incorporates my own handmade/hand recycled paper, Japanese Washi paper, and my own hand dyed, hand painted papers. The focal point is a small original spin painting. The papers have various wrinkles, crinkles and textures which creates visual richness.

Thanks Heather. You're right, this kind of design could make really cute art cards. Thanks for the idea. :) I've been making some itsy bitsy tiny spin paintings that might work well...

That looks really good! Is the washi paper the goldish beige papers on the four squares I've never heard of it before.

It's actually the crinkly looking olive green paper with little gold flecks. My sister brought it back from Japan (she lived there for a couple of years.) I have been hoarding that paper for a long time now.

The goldish beige paper is my own handmade/ hand recycled paper. It is pretty easy to make if you have the right equipment to make it, but it is time consuming. You basically shred up paper that you want to recycle~ nice quality paper is the best, like resume paper or good quality stationery. You put it in a blender with like 10 parts water to one part paper. You blend it up really well. Then you pour the mixture into a papermaking mold (it's usually a 2-piece mold and referred to as "mold & deckel"), squeeze the water out, and let it dry. The ragged edges that you see are referred to as deckelled edges. (Not sure if I spelled that right.) You see deckelled edges on books sometimes, too; usually nicer books, but not always.

I used to really be into papermaking and I have a lot of handmade paper from that time in my life. Lucky me, because I'm not sure I would want to go through all that now! :)

Wow! thats sounds like a TON of work. Well I would say it's worth it because that paper really stands out.
